A message form Mrs. Dickson

Many people believe that education is about maths, reading, writing, knowledge and information and of course they are right. At the ABC ,however, we believe that education is about much more than this. It is about curiousity, imagination, wonder, courage, compassion, kindness, empathy, humility and, of course, effort.  

In our UP celebration assemblies this week we recognised those children who, throughout last Cal, demonstrated a positive approach to learning. They may, or may not, get all their Maths or English or IPC learning right but what they do get right is their attitude. We are proud of all of the children in the primary school but in this Cal, some children in particular were identified by their teachers as being persistent - they don’t give up, they keep trying. As being resilient - if they find something hard or get something wrong they bounce back and stick at it. As being children who know that making mistakes is OK and a perfect opportunity to learn. Children who epitomise our school motto - Effort leads to success.

Our school traits and values are very important to us too, they are woven into the fabric of everything that we do in school. We, therefore, also took the opportunity to recognize those children who really do live our traits and values in their day to day lives at school and who, we are sure, will be our responsible and outstanding citizens of the future.

We are proud of the success we are achieving in developing children with growth mindsets. Children who enjoy new challenges and believe that through taking risks with their learning and challenging themselves, through high expectations, through effort, determination and persistence they can and will achieve well and be successful.

Muchas personas creen que la educación es acerca de matemáticas, lectura, escritura, conocimiento e información y por supuesto tienen razón. En el ABC, sin embargo, creemos que la educación es mucho más que esto. Se trata de curiosidad, imaginación, asombro, valor, compasión, bondad, empatía, humildad y, por supuesto, esfuerzo.

En nuestras asambleas de celebración hoy estamos reconociendo a esos niños que, a lo largo de la última CAL, demostraron una actitud positiva hacia el aprendizaje. Pueden, o no, comprender todo acerca de las matemáticas o inglés o IPC pero lo que realmente es muy buena es su actitud. Nos sentimos orgullosos de todos los niños en la sección de primaria pero en esta Cal, estos niños en particular han sido identificados por sus maestros por ser alumnos perseverantes - no se dan por vencidos, siempre siguen intentándolo. Por  su habilidad para adaptarse - si encuentran algo difícil o si algo sale mal consiguen recuperarse y seguir intentándolo. Por ser niños que saben que cometer errores esta bien y que esta es una oportunidad perfecta para aprender. Niños que personifican el lema del colegio – El esfuerzo conduce al éxito.

Los valores del colegio también son importantes para nosotros, están entretejidos con todo lo que hacemos en el colegio. Por lo tanto, aprovechamos también esta oportunidad para reconocer a aquellos niños que realmente viven nuestros valores en el dia a dia de su vida escolar y que serán nuestros ciudadanos responsables y sobresalientes del futuro.

Estamos orgullosos del éxito que estamos alcanzando desarrollando niños con una mentalidad de crecimiento. Niños que disfrutan nuevos retos y que creen que es a través de tomar riesgos en su aprendizaje y retándose a ellos mismos, por medio de expectativas altas, por medio del esfuerzo, determinación y perseverancia que pueden alcanzar el éxito.
