Parents,
Over the
next 6 weeks third grade will be following a unit a unit of work on a theme that focuses on “Culture”. This unit has been chosen because there are
many objectives that will allow the children to explore and learn about the
cultural aspects of El Salvador and other countries around the world.
This unit of work is part of the International Primary Curriculum.
This new curriculum
sets out very clearly what children will learn — the learning goals — in three different
areas:

1. The subjects of the curriculum — the learning goals for each of these
subjects are very
interesting and challenging for young children.
2. Personal development — the characteristics which will help the
children become responsible, independent learners.
3. International understanding — which will help children develop
a sense of the independence of their own country and culture and the
interdependence between countries and cultures.
Each unit of work is based around specific targets derived from the
learning goals for one or more of the subjects. During this unit we will be
focussing on Society, Geography, History, Technology and International.
The children will be learning about the host country and three other
countries
In Society, we will be finding out:
- Ways of life in
different countries
- About festivals and
celebrations in other countries.
In Geography, we will be finding out:
- Where our food
comes from
- What people grow
and eat in different countries.
In History we will be finding out:
- About important
people in the countries we are studying.
- How to make a
timeline for the host country.
In Technology, we will be finding out:
- How different
cultural items are made.
In International, we’ll be:
- Why different
people around the world have different lives.
- Make contact with
international schools.
All of the
work we are going to do has been specially written to help your child reach the
learning goals. Children will be reading, researching, writing, illustrating,
performing, working on their own and working in groups. We will be checking to
see how well your child has learned through particular activities and by asking
children to explain their work, perhaps to you.
We already
know the interest you take in your child’s work. If you can, please discuss
with your child the work they have done as the unit progresses and let them
teach you if they can.
Talk to your
child about El Salvador’s culture, the things you like most about it. How is it similar and different to other
countries you have visited?
If your
child has some work to research, please help them, but without actually doing
the work. If you have the chance to
further their interest in the ideas of this theme please take it, as your
enthusiasm and interest is most important.
By the end
of the unit, we hope your child has achieved all of the learning targets. We hope they have had an enjoyable time in
the classroom and we hope you have enjoyed seeing your child work with
enthusiasm. If you have any comments

Estimados padres
de familia,
Durante
las próximas 6 semanas, tercer grado desarrollará
una unidad de trabajo cuyo tema se enfoca en la “Cultura”. Esta unidad de estudio es parte del
Currículum Internacional de Primaria (International Primary Curriculum). Este
nuevo currículum define claramente lo que los alumnos van a aprender – las
metas de aprendizaje – en tres diferentes áreas:
1. Las materias del currículum — los objetivos de aprendizaje de
cada una de estas materias son muy interesantes y son además un reto para los
alumnos.
2. Desarrollo
Personal — las características que ayudarán a los niños a convertirse en
estudiantes responsables e independientes.
3. Entendimiento
Internacional — el cual ayudará a los niños a desarrollar el sentido de la
independencia de su propio país y su cultura y la interdependencia entre países
y culturas.
Cada unidad de
trabajo esta fundamentada alrededor de objetivos específicos derivados de las
metas de aprendizaje y de una o más materias. Durante esta unidad, nos
estaremos enfocando en Sociedad, Geografía, Historia, Tecnología e
Internacional.
Los alumnos
aprenderán acerca de su país y otros tres países.
En Sociedad, conoceremos:
• Formas de vida
en diferentes países
• Acerca de
festividades y celebraciones en otros países
En Geografía, aprenderemos:
• De donde viene
nuestra comida
• Que es lo que
las personas cultivan y comen en diferentes países
En Historia, aprenderemos:
• Acerca de
personas importantes de los países que estamos estudiando
• Como hacer una
línea del tiempo para el país anfitrión
En Tecnología, aprenderemos:
• Como se elaboran
diferentes artículos culturales
En Internacional:
• Aprenderemos
porque las personas alrededor del mundo viven diferentes estilos de vida
• Haremos contacto
con colegios internacionales
Todo el trabajo que
haremos ha sido escrito para ayudarle a su hijo a alcanzar los objetivos de
aprendizaje. Los niños leerán, investigarán, escribirán, ilustrarán,
ejecutarán, trabajando solos y en grupos. Estaremos pendientes de ver que tan
bien su hijo ha aprendido por medio de distintas actividades y pidiéndole que
explique su trabajo y en algunas ocasiones, a ustedes.
Ya conocemos el
interés que ustedes tienen en el trabajo de su hijo. De ser posible, por favor
discuta con su hijo el trabajo que ha hecho conforme avanza la unidad, y si es
posible, déjelo que le enseñe.
Hable con su hijo acerca de la cultura Salvadoreña, las cosas que mas le
gustan de ella. Piensen en como ésta es similar y diferente a las culturas de
otros países que han visitado.
Si su hijo
tiene algún trabajo que investigar, por favor ayúdele - ¡pero sin hacerle el
trabajo! Si tiene la oportunidad de
ahondar en sus ideas sobre este tema, por favor hágalo pues su entusiasmo y su
interés son lo más importante.
Para el final
de la unidad, esperamos que su hijo haya alcanzado todos los objetivos de
aprendizaje. Esperamos que haya disfrutado de su tiempo en el aula y esperamos
que usted haya disfrutado viendo a su hijo trabajar con entusiasmo. Si usted
